The 2016 Clare and Munster senior hurling champions will begin their bid to reclaim those titles this weekend.

Ballyea bowed out of last years championship at the quarter final stage against Newmarket, and will take on Whitegate on Saturday in the 2018 opener.

They will be without the man who captained them to glory as Stan Lineen has emigrated to Australia, but they will have the services of county stars such as Tony Kelly, Paul Flanagan and Gary Brennan.

Manager Kevin Sheehan knows the east Clare men will be stiff opposition for his side.

Meanwhile a host of county stars will be on show in one of the games of the weekend as Cratloe take Inagh/Kilnamona.

The Combo will be bidding to make the breakthrough at senior level off the back of recent underage success that’s seen them capture numerous under 21 and minor titles.

Former All Ireland winner with Clare Fergal Hegarty is back in charge of his native club, he says it’s time to take the next step.
