Clare’s County Fire and Rescue Service is on track to respond to around 1,000 callouts this year.

Figures released by the local authority also show that June has been one of the busiest months so far, with the recent heatwave bringing extra work in for fire fighters.

That included 132 in May alone and came ahead of a busy June for fire crews, who battled gorse fires as the heatwave continued.

During that month, the Fire Service dealt with wildland fires in a number of areas around the county including Woodcock Hill, Flagmount, Mountshannon, and The Hand.

The local fire service has also granted 51 fire safety certificates so far this year and received some 12 complaints about dangerous structures or places.
