Garda have been out in force across Clare over the past two days in an effort to crack down on criminal activity in the county.

It’s in response to concerns raised by members of the public, and local representatives, and also follows other intelligence gathering by the Gardaí themselves.

Gardaí engaged in a countywide crackdown on crime, with a number of homes searched, and checkpoints established.

Trainee Gardaí were even drafted in from Templemore for the exercise.

Gardaí are describing the operation as successful – 11,000 euro worth of cocaine and 20,000 euro worth of cannabis herb have been seized during searches in Ennis and one person has been arrested and is in Garda custody in connection with this.

Six other people have been arrested on warrants in Ennis, while a further two people have been arrested on warrants in Scarriff and Killaloe, and another person for fraud offences.

There have been two drugs finds in Tulla, where a small quantity of drugs, with a low street value have been seized.

Clare’s Crime Prevention Officer, Sergeant Joe Downey says Gardaí have one clear message for anyone involved in criminal activity in this county- that criminals will make a mistake and they will be caught.

Project Banner continues this afternoon and a number of people are due to appear before the courts.

Gardaí also say they have arrested six people as a result of a disturbance outside of Ennis Courthouse in the past hour.
