Community Games AGM

 

Clare Community Games are holding their AGM in Ennis this evening with anyone interested in getting involved invited to attend.

The organisation celebrated 40 years in the county in 2011 while it  also honoured this years participants with its all star function last month.

Kevin O'Loughlin,vice president, says its important they get more adult volunteers:

The meeting takes place at 8 o'clock in the West County Hotel and three delegates from each area are asked to attend.

 

Fallon heads state side for Breeders Cup

 

Clare Jockey Kieren Fallon departs for the states today to ride in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf race

The Ballinruan man will ride Alan McCabe's Caspar Netscher  at the competition in Kentucky

Fallon had to give up his rides at Kempton yesterday due to illness but is expected to be fit for racing action in the US

Sentencing in Cricket Cheating Case

Sentencing begins today for the Pakistan cricketers who took part in a betting scam involving an England Test match.

Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif  were found guilty at Southwark Crown Court yesterday, while Mohammad Amir had already admitted charges.

Former England captain Sir Ian Botham says harsh punishments are needed for cheaters.

 

Kenyan Wins Dublin Marathon

Kenyan Geoffrey Ndungu has won the Dublin City Marathon in a time of 2 hours 8 minutes and 31 seconds.

Ndungu broke the old course record of 2 hours 8 minutes and 58 seconds set by Moses Kibet last year.

Sean Connolly was the first Irish athlete home. But the Tallaght AC runner failed to meet the Olympic qualification standard.

Linda Byrne won the Irish women's title. She came in with a time of  2 hours 36 minutes and 20 seconds. 

The finish has gaurenteed her qualification for the London marathon at the 2012 Olympic games.  

Mid West team claims Ultimate Golf Challenge

 

 

A Mid West team have emerged victorious in this year's Clare Ultimate Golf Challenge

The competition saw over 400 golfers from across Ireland play the county's ten golf courses. before taking part in a final at Doonbeg Golf Club this week.
 
The 2011 Clare Ultimate Golf Challenge concluded in Doonbeg yesterday when a fourball comprising members of golf clubs throughout the Midwest claimed the top prize.

The winning team included leader Des O’Brien of Kilrush Golf Club

Donald finishes top of US Money List

 

 

Luke Donald's finished the American golf season top of the USPGA Tour money list.

England's world number one fired a brilliant final round of 64, including 6 straight birdies, to win the final event of the year in Florida by 2 shots on 17-under-par.

Donald's now likely to become the first ever player to finish top of the standings in both America AND Europe.

Ennis Boxing club gets ready for 50th Anniversary celebrations

Ennis boxing club are set to celebrate their 50th anniversary this weekend with a specially orgainised tournament this Saturday.

Over 14 bouts have been orgainesed with top biling given to the  Light  Middle contest between European Bronze medalist Keelan Sexton  and Munster Champ Jim Keenan from the Our Lady of Lourdes club in Limerick.

Saturday's showcase will see Sally Carrig and Antoinette Keane from Ennis both in action in front of a home crowd for the very first time.

Tributes after death of Motorsport driver

Tributes are pouring in for English driver Dan Wheldon who was killed during yesterdays Las Vegas Indy 300.

The 33-year-old was taken to hospital in a helicopter after his car was involved in a massive 15-vehicle crash.

 

 

Lowry on the march at Portugal open

Shane Lowry is just 4 off the lead on 9 under after a round of 66 at the Portugal Masters, Peter Lawrie is 8 under after 14 while Gareth Maybin has just parred the first and is 7 under.

Damien Mc Grane and Gary Murphy are tied on 5 under after 15 and 13 holes while Padraig Harrington resumes shortly on 5 under.

Simon Kahn leads on 13 under in the clubhouse.

Hoey claims Dunhill Links Championship

 

Michael Hoey held off the challenge of fellow Ulster men Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell to win the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

Hoey finished two shots cleat on 22under.

McIlory ended up on 20 under with McDowell a further shot back.
