There'll be plenty of Clare interest at the Munster Juvenile Relays and Multi Events which take place in Nenagh tomorrow, getting underway at 11:00

The even-aged replayes will be held in the morning, and uneven ages in the afternoon.

Sunday meanwhile sees the Clare Road Championships being held at Ballyea - that gets underway at 1:00.

There will be just one race on the programme both Ladies and Mens all going together with changing facilities at Ballyea Community Centre.

 

Giants Crowned Super Bowl Kings

 The New York Giants have won Super Bowl 46.

They beat New England Patriots 21-17 in Indianapolis overnight.

Just as in the 2008 final, Giants' quarter-back Eli Manning was named Most Valuable Player as he inspired his side to victory.

Armstrong inquiry halted

CYCLING

In cycling overnight, US Justice Department prosecutors have announced that they're closing a criminal investigation into whether Lance Armstrong took performance enhancing drugs.

A statement from the U.S. attorney in Los Angeles said the seven-time Tour de France winner will not be charged, but did not explain the reasons for the decision.

Clare seeks consolation prizes at final day of Clonmel

 

The  three-day coursing meeting at Clonmel comes to an end today, with the Oaks and Derby champions set to be decided.

Clare interest in the main competitions has ended, but dog owners from across the county are hoping to win some of the consolation stakes.

Gaisce Mor, owned by the Gaisce syndicate in Quilty, is still in the running for the Kitty Butler Stakes.

Meanwhile Donnelans Cross, owned by Mary Grace in Shannon, and Uptown Abu of the 'Rumour Has It Syndicate' in Ennis are both hoping for glory in the Keen Laddie Stakes.

Clare Dogs in action on Day two of Clonmel Meeting

There's just a handful of Clare dogs left in action ahead of day two of the Clonmel Coursing meeting.

In the Oaks Sean Meehan's "Oilean Smile" takes on "Uptown Angel" and "Rio's Girl" is up against  Ruth and Ellen O Donoghue's "Jeru Melody"

In the Derby "Ballymore Bob" meets "Wood Highland" for Carol Maguire of Killimer, and "Jeru Cavendish" meets "Cloona Boy".

Djokovic wins Australian Open

 

Novak Djokovic hailed his Australian Open win over Rafael Nadal as the best of his career.

The World number retained his title in Melbourne after an epic five set win over Nadal in the longest ever Grand Slam final.

Coursing at Clonmel

Today sees the start of The Clonmel Coursing meeting with Clare interest in both the Derby and the oaks.

In the Derby:

In the first  Quarter  "In the pub" is up against V Ballymore Bob  and  3rd quarter "Uptown Abu"  meets  "Solid Monk" while in the 4th quarter its "Barrack Eoin"  taking on "Jeru Cavendish"

Victoria Azarenka is the new Australian Open champion and the new world number one.

The Belarussian produced an emphatic performance on her debut in a Grand Slam final to beat Maria Sharapova in straight sets.

Djokovic beats Murray in thriller in Melbourne

Novak Djokovic will face Rafa Nadal in the final of this year's Australian Open.

Djokovic booked his place in Sunday's decider after coming out on top of a thrilling five-set battle against Andy Murray in today's semi-final.

Nadal into Austrailian open final

Tennis

Rafael Nadal came from a set down to beat Roger Federer and advance to his second Australian Open final.

Federer won the opening set in a tie break but Nadal  who won the title back in 2009, took the next three sets 6-2 7-6 6-4.

The 2009 winner will now face Novak Djokovic or Andy Murray in Sundays final - they play tomorrow.

Meanwhile the womens final will be contested by Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka.

Sharapova beat Petra Kvitova while Azarenka got the better of defending champion Kim Clijsters.
