Appeal to taoiseach to follow through on promise of Clare sewerage investment

The Taoiseach is being asked to fulfil his promise of helping to provide investment in sewerage services in Ennis.

When in opposition, Enda Kenny told Councillors to contact him if the town still required an upgrade in services, and a letter has now been dispatched to the Taoiseach's office asking him to consider the calls of Ennis Town Council.

Local representatives have expressed frustration at their 15-year wait for a full upgrade, particularly as they feel that efforts to attract major industries or new employers are being hampered.

South East Clare boosted by events centre creating 30 new jobs

Local representatives are welcoming the establishment of a new events centre on the Clare side of the UL campus, and the creation of 60 new jobs.

30 workers are already employed at The Pavillion, which is adjacent to new state-of-the-art sports facilities at UL, and officials say they expect to hire as many workers again within two months.

Westbury Councillor Pascal Fitzgerald is hoping that Clare residents will get to reap the benefits of the new centre.

30 full-time staff have already been hired to work at the facility, named The Pavilion, which held it's official opening last night.

Operators say demand for it has already been so high that they are preparing to hire up to another 30 workers in the coming months.

Pat O’Sullivan from Masterchefs Hospitality, who have established the business in conjunction with the University, says they're pleased with the initial reaction.

Taoiseach Asked To Deal With Ennis Sewerage Problems

The Taoiseach is to be contacted by Ennis Town Council in a bid to provide vital infrastructure for the creation of jobs in the area.

Councillors have expressed frustration at a wait of over 15 years for a full upgrade of the local sewerage scheme in Clare's County Town, particularly as they feel no major industries or new employers can be attracted here without such services.

This weeks meeting heard that 67 million euro would be required to fund the necessary works, while juts two million has been provided.

Greek Government Asked For Yet More Austerity Cuts

Greece is facing another deadline in its effort to secure a second bailout package.

Eurozone finance ministers are demanding officials in Athens meet three further conditions by next wednesday, before they give the green light for another 130 billion euro in aid.

In order to qualify, the Greek parliament has to ratify the package on Sunday, officials must identify another 325 million euro in cutbacks by next Wednesday, and coalition leaders have to give strong political assurances on the programme's implementation.

Still No Deal On Greek Bailout

Greek leaders have failed to strike a deal on austerity cuts ahead of crucial Eurozone talks, jeopardising the country's chances of drawing down a second bailout package and averting a disastrous debt default.

The three coalition partners in the Greek government of Prime Minister Lucas Papademos held nearly eight hours of talks on a rescue plan for the debt-strapped economy - but one issue, the reduction of pensions, is still outstanding.

Finance Bill To Be Published

New measures to attract more investment into Ireland will be unveiled by the government later.

They're part of the Finance Bill, which will give legal effect to the measures contained in Budget 2012.

The Bill is thought to include tax incentives to encourage overseas investors to start doing business in Ireland, and other tax reliefs to allow Irish companies to market their products abroad.

The Finance Minister Michael Noonan will outline the measures in the bill later today.

Despite a fall in foreign visitors since the recession, Clare's tourism landmark welcomed over 809 thousand visitors last year - an increase of 12% on 2010.

Talks On Greek Crisis Continue

A new round of talks gets underway in Greece this morning in an effort to get support for a new austerity plan under the terms of the country's second bailout.

Markets remain unimpressed by the country's failure to get to grips with its debt mountain.

Prime Minister Lucas Papademos delayed a key meeting on reforms yesterday  angering European leaders and provoking caution in the markets.

Talks Continue On Greek Bailout

Greece took a step closer towards default overnight.

The Greek prime Minister Lucas Papademos failed to convince any of his party colleagues in accepting new austerity measures in return for a second 130 billion euro bailout.

After five hours of discussions last night, the three leaders of Greece’s national unity government had not accepted demands by international lenders for immediate spending cuts and labour market reforms as part of a new medium-term package.
