Court appearance for Clare teacher facing sex offence charges

The Book of Evidence in the case of a County Clare teacher facing sex offence charges against a teenage girl is due to be served at Ennis District Court today.

The majority of the alleged offence occurred at a County Clare School over an two month period last year.

The 60 year old accused who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before Ennis District Court last month charged with committing a total of 14 sexual offences against a teenage girl.

Teen due in court over Shannon Banks assault

 

A teenager charged with assaulting a 16 year old in South East Clare at the weekend is due to make an application for bail today.

The 17 year old who can't be named for legal reasons is due before the Children's Court in Limerick.

A 16 year old remains in a critical but stable condition after the incident outside the Applegreen Filling Station in Shannon Banks on Friday night.
 

Teen critical after Shannon Banks assault

A 16 year old remains in a critical condition in hospital after an assault in South East Clare over the weekend.

The incident happened at a petrol station in Shannon Banks on Friday night during which the teenager suffered head injuries

A 17 year old who can't be named for legal reasons has appeared in court charged with assault causing harm to the 16 year old at the Applegreen station in Shannon Banks

Judge Aeneas McCarthy remanded him in custody until tomorrow when he’s due before the children’s sitting of Limerick District Court.

 

Gardai warn against boy racer behaviour

Clare Gardai have insisted they won't tolerate reckless driving on the county's roads as an investigation into a dangerous incident in the Killaloe area continues.

The Gardai in Killaloe have confirmed to Clare FM that footage of a group of young men driving dangerously, which was posted on the YouTube website, was filmed on roads around Ogonnelloe and Killaloe, and say they're treating the matter very seriously.

McGovern Judgement Due

A Barefield man challenging his conviction for killing a 14 year old schoolboy will find out today if his appeal's been successful.

John McGovern of Ballyduff was jailed for six years for the death of Michael Doherty who died after being stabbed during a fight outside Supermacs in Ennis in June 2007.

He also received a three year concurrent sentence for producing a knife on the night in question.

At the Court of Criminal Appeal last month lawyers for 20 year old McGovern outlined their challenge to his manslaughter conviction .

Hit and Run suspect released

Gardai have released without charge a man held in connection with a hit and run in West Clare.

The 74 year old was arrested on the Ennis to Kilrush Road Road yesterday morning after a man was knocked down by a camper van near Knockerra Cross at around 10.30.

The victim, a local man,  is in a serious but stable condition at Limerick Regional Hospital.

The driver of a camper van was subsequently stopped on the Ennis to Kilrush Road, on the outskirts of Ennis and later arrested in connection with the collision.

Vysochan jury to consider verdict.

 

The jury at the trial of a man accused of murdering a teenager in a house in South east Clare two years ago will begin considering its verdict today.

21 year old John O'Loughlin, 21, of Cecil Street in Limerick denies murdering Roman Vysochan at the Carraig Midhe estate in Westbury on the night of 10 May 2008.

The 16 year old, Ukrainian native died after being stabbed in the chest.

Community Based CCTV System for Ennis

Efforts by Gardaí to clamp down on anti social behaviour and other criminal activity in Ennis have been given a boost.

Contracts have been signed for the provision of extra security cameras to be installed across the Rapid areas of the town, including Clancy Park, Coote Park, Considine's Road, Waterpark Heights and McHugh villas.

Ennis Town Council will oversee the installation of 13 new closed circuit cameras and an upgrade for the existing network, which is hoped to significantly reduce crime in the area.

McGovern Judgement date set

 

Barefield man John McGovern will find out next week if he's been successful in overturning his manslaughter conviction.

The 20 year old is appealing his six year sentence and conviction for killing Ennis schoolboy Michael Doherty outside Supermacs on O'Connell Street in June 2007.

John McGovern's appeal was heard on June  22nd - the day before the third anniversary of 14 year old Michael Doherty, of Ashline Ennis, who died from stab wounds following an altercation with the young Barefield man in 2007

Vysochan Murder Trial to get underway proper

 

A new juror in the trial of two men accused of murdering a South East Clare Teenager is due to be sworn in today.

20 year old John O'Loughlin, from Cecil Street, Limerick and 18 year old Anthony Mason of Bishop Street, Limerick deny murdering Roman Vysochan.

The 16 year old was found lying on the footpath at the entrance to the Carraig Midhe estate in Westbury with stab wounds to his chest on May 10, 2008.
