The Today Show – Wednesday January 18th

On the Today Show this afternoon Gavin Grace spoke with Author Miriam Devitt about her new book – Super Hands; Baby Sign Language. Miriam, who lives in Killimer, uses Irish sign language (ISL) to show parents and babies a series of simple signs that they can use at home together, so your baby could tell you “I’m hungry”, “I want my milk” or “I see a doggie!” as early as 7 or 8 months.  SuperHands are teaching the babies of Ireland to effectively communicate using sign language before they can even talk. If you would like more information see their website www.superhands.ie

Dr. Máire Finn of the Ennis Family Medical Centre joined the Today Show for her
weekly medical feature. This week’s topic was infertility.  Dr. Finn explained the causes, effects and solutions to the problem, which many women and their partners face.

Gavin also spoke to Kingsley Aikins, the Chairman of a newly established initiative – Hireland. Businesses in Ireland are being urged to sign up to a new initiative that’s all about creating jobs. ‘Hireland’ asks a small and medium sized firm to take on just one more employee. Once the initial pledge is made, the campaign will follow up to see if the job was offered. Their target is 5-thousand jobs in the first half of this year, and already 200 companies have made the promise. Through collective entrepreneurialism and positive thinking, Hireland, which is a voluntary, not for profit group, hopes to encourage the creation of 5,000 new job opportunities in the first half of 2012
