The Today Show – Wednesday April 4th

Maeve Ryan, Service Co-Ordinator with the Crime Victims Helpline spoke to The Today Show regarding CSO figures. Having evaluated the most recent crime statistics, published on 30th March, the National Crime Victims Helpline welcomes the overall reduction in several major crime categories. It is not surprising that in the current economic climate, the number of reported burglaries and related offences has increased by almost 8% – an increase of 2,019 in the number of such incidents. Fraud, deception and related offences have also risen, while the incidence of reported theft has shown a very slight increase. The National Crime Victims Helpline provides an opportunity for people who are feeling isolated, anxious, angry, sad, nervous and afraid as a result of a crime to find emotional support on the phone, while others may have questions about the justice system, or ask for information on local services for victims of crime in their area. The National Helpline number is Free Phone 116 006.  The number for texts is 085 1337711
