The Afternoon Show – Tuesday May 13th 2014

On today’s show Máire spoke to Tina O'Dwyer, Sustainable Tourism Co-ordinator at the Burren & Cliffs of Moher Geopark. Lisdoon and the Burren have also made it to the finals of Foodie Towns – along with Loop Head. Lisdoonvarna has increasingly come to distinguish itself as a food destination of significance. A core principle shared by those offering a dining experience in Lisdoonvarna is the centrality of local produce and local producers in the creation and execution of the food experience. The Burren Slow Food Festival has been running for 9 years, having been established just after the foundation of Slow Food Clare 10 years ago, while the Burren Food Fayre is now in its third year. Limerick Singer & Songwriter Cillian King was a guest of the show. Cillian has a background in traditional Irish music on the concertina, piano and banjo from the age of 6, the self-taught guitarist turned his attention to songwriting in the summer of 2011 and has since gone from strength to strength. He has gained much experience by appearing regularly as the support act for highly successful Limerick folk-rockers, Hermitage Green, from which he has developed a loyal following. No longer performing as a solo artist, Cillian has recruited a band full of experienced session musicians to accompany him on his first professional release. He performs at the Doolin Folk Festival this year from the 13th to 15th June.
