The Afternoon Show – Thursday June 6th 2013

Joining Clare FM’s Gavin Grace on today’s Afternoon Show was Collette Ryan. Collette is the Project Manager with Heads Up, a mental health promotion project which aims to contribute to suicide prevention efforts. They do this by providing timely, appropriate information and support to young people. It provides a wide range of initiatives aimed primarily at 15-24 year olds. HeadsUp has developed an ‘Exam Survival Guide’ to help students get through the stresses and fears that can sometimes come with the state exams.  Also following today’s news they discussed the high profile case of Stephen Fry who has been talking about his own mental health and how he attempted to take his own life.  For more details www.headsup.ie.

Anne Hannify is the CEO of Fundraising Ireland and also spoke to Gavin about how corporate companies are giving less to charities. According to their research, Fundraising Ireland says donations are down 27% from December 2011 to December 2012. A survey of Irish charities has found that donations from the sector have dropped from 1.7 million to 1.2 million euro over the period. However, donations from members of the public fell just 4.3% with 300 thousand people giving during Christmas last year.

Clare FM’s Kiara Gannon was also out and about for The Afternoon Show today, meeting all of you who are enjoying the sunshine and praying it’ll last another few days!
