Clash of the Titans - Movie Review
Starring: Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, Sam Worthington
Directed: Louis Leterrier
If like me, you are old enough to remember Saturday afternoons, with the rain pouring down outside and no such thing as an X Box or PS3 to keep you occupied, and nestling down by the TV to watch Clash Of The Titans or Jason and the Argonauts, then you will have looked forward to this updated version of those classic Saturday afternoon movies.
Gone by the wayside are the distinctive Ray Harryhausen stop motion special affects and the awful acting. In its stead we have top of the range CGI which brings the old legends to life.
In a nutshell, the Gods, led by the great Zeus (Liam Neeson) are unhappy with man as he has turned his back on them and its man’s prayers to the gods that keep them strong and immortal. Angry, he unleashes his brother Hades (Ralph Fiennes), God of the Underworld, to exact his brutal revenge on man and make him fear the gods once more. He uses the great Kracken, a fearful sea monster, to threaten man and lay waste to his great city unless he is given a sacrifice in the shape of Andromeda (Davalos), the princess daughter of the King of Argos.
The only way to stop Hades is to bring him the head of the feared Medusa, whose gaze can turn a man to stone in an instant. A young and reluctant Perseus (Sam Worthington) is sent on this perilous quest and so with his crew he sets off to save the city and banish Hades back to the underworld.
Directed by Louis Letterier, who gave us the Transporter series, does a commendable job on a classic movie, but you can see in some o f the slower parts that he forgets that this is an action movie.
4/5
