Clare Fm’s John Cooke attended the official launch of the Limerick PPP Tunnel in Limerick where he spoke with An Taoiseach, Brian Cowen and Minister for Transport, Noel Dempsey about its significance for Clare and the entire region. Also in attendance were local Councillors and Mayor of Clare, Cllr. Christy Curtin, who tackled the controversial Clare / Limerick boundary issue head on in his address to the Taoiseach, stating “Leave Clare Alone”. The Mayor of Limerick, Cllr. Maria Byrne and Cathaoirleach of Limerick County Council, Cllr. Richard Butler also spoke with John Cooke about their opposing views on the boundary debate as well as the impact the new tunnel will have on Limerick City, Council and Shannon Airport.
Journalist with the Irish Independent, Brian McDonald discussed prostitution and theft being carried out in Galway during the annual Galway Races Festival. It’s claimed Gardai are warning race-goers to be wary while visiting the City.
Following recent discussions on funding cuts to the HSE Mid West, Clare FM’s John Cooke spoke with Noreen Muldoon, Industrial Relations Officer (West) with the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation. The INMO is calling on the government to lift the moratorium on the recruitment for nursing and midwifery posts.
Eamon Chesser and Michael O’Brien from Ennis Track A.C. spoke about Eamon’s son Rory, who’s taking part in the European Athletics Championships in Barcelona tonight. Rory has been running with the club for almost 12 years and features in the 1,500 metre Semi Final at 07.30 (Irish time) tonight.
