The Gay Lesbian Equality Network yesterday published figures on the lesbian and gay couples who entered Civil Partnerships in Ireland in 2011
536 couples entered civil partnership in Ireland in the nine months from April 5th 2011, when civil partnership first became available
The 1072 people entering an Irish Civil Partnership came from Ireland and 58 other countries throughout the world, including the UK, Brazil, the United States Poland and the Philippines.
couples entering civil partnership live in every one of the 26 counties in Ireland
People of all ages entered civil partnerships: most were aged between 41 and 50, followed by those aged between 31 and 40. 5 people were aged between 18 and 20 and 8 people were over 70 years of age.
Civil partnerships took place in 25 of the 26 counties in Ireland – all except Co. Clare
There have been calls for a facility in Ennis or elsewhere in the county where civil partnerships can take place as currently, couples are forced to travel to the registry office in Limerick to exchange their vows and register their unions.
Currently Clare people are using the Civil Registration Service, St Camillus’ Hospital, Shelbourne Road, Limerick

www.clarevirtually.ie is a new Clare tourism promotion website that allows people to get virtual tours of accommodation and gets a Cead Mile Failte from the owner or manager – then it allows you to book the accommodation if you’re interested
Yesterday the founder Eoin O’Hagan who lives in Scarrif met with Minister of State in the department of Transport, Tourism and Sport Michael Ring TD – this meeting was facilitated by Deputy Michael McNamara
