Wednesday’s Morning Focus was full to the brim with news as we tackled the stories that have been making headlines all week.

To begin, Gavin was joined on the line by Kilfenora based Civil Engineer Michael Duffy, who discussed whether there is a chance that Clare could experience widespread water outages, as has been seen in the North East. You can listen the the interview with Michael below:

Next up was farm safety and Clare IFA Chairperson Willie Hanrahan and farm accident survivor David Tarpey spoke to Gavin about the importance of being safe on farms, particularly during the busy Summer season.

Clare Young Fine Gael Treasurer Rebecca Gregan then spoke to Gavin about the need for action in regards to student accommodation and highlighted the difficulty being faced each year by third-level students, who are finding it increasingly difficult to find accommodation throughout the country. July’s Book Club then joined us in studio to review ML Stedman’s ‘The Light Between Oceans’. Teresa Carmody O’Shea of the De Valera Library in Ennis and Elaine Finn from the Shannon Library discussed the book and looked forward to next month’s book, ‘Holding’ by Graham Norton.

After that, it was the turn of Bernard Hanrahan, Geraldine Lynch and Collette O’Driscoll to tell us all about the exciting activities that visitors to the Clarecastle Show have to look forward to. You can listen back to their interview below:

Next, Gavin spoke to Councillor Pat Hayes and Ken Collins about a charity swim that is being held in Flagmount to celebrate 50 years of swimming lessons in the area, with all funds raised going to the Raheen Community Hospital.

The show ended with a piece from Clare FM’s Ben Sweeney, who had taken a trip to Glór to speak with Ennis teenager, Quinn Painter about a game he designed to replicate the journey of Syrian refugees coming across the Mediterranean. You can listen to the interview between Ben and Quinn below:
