Morning Focus – Wednesday 13th March 2019

This Wednesday’s Morning Focus was full of debate and drama – plans for new UL campus ‘town’ and Brexit took centre stage, whilst Ennis Players will take the actual stage next week at glór. We also heard about health & safety on farms; keeping your brain young and wellie races in the Swiss Alps. Miss out? We’ve got you covered!

First on the show we had Bernard Purcell, editor of the Irish World to talk about the recent and upcoming votes in Westminster on the UK’s withdrawal from the EU. He discussed what a no deal could mean for Ireland.

Next up on the show, Gavin talked to Green Party candidate in Killaloe Barry O’Donovan and Ind Councillor for Sixmilebridge, PJ Ryan about the proposed new ‘campus town’ that has caused quite the stir in Clare politics. Some believe it will upset the relationship between UL and Limerick City while having implications for development in Ennis. Others believe that the creation of new jobs and enterprise outweighs these factors. Listen to what our guests had to say:

Next on the show, Eyrecourt man Peter Gohery was on the show to talk about an event on in Kilmihil tomorrow (12-4pm) on safety in farms. Gohery survived a serious farming accident around nine years ago, and will be telling his story at the farm of Chrissie and Pat Curin in Lacken, Kilmihil. Those attending should park in Kilmihil where a shuttle bus will take them.

After the news, we heard from award-winning science communicator and psychologist Dr Sabina Brennan who has written the book 100 Days to a Younger Brain. The book has tips on improving your memory, living well with dementia and all the factors in life that you can nurture to rejuvenate your brain. Listen Below:

Then we heard from Ann Broggy from Meelick who hosts a Wellie racing event every year for St Patrick’s Day on their farm in Moor Ruer, near St Gallen. Afterwards, we had our regular segment the Greatest Song You’ve Never Heard with Brian Flynn.
