The midweek edition of Morning Focus had a summer feel, with advice on what to read on warmer days, as well as tips on how to get involved in volunteering in your spare time!

The show opened with a look ahead to a big weekend for GAA fans. With the minor and senior hurlers in action against Cork, and the footballers meeting Mayo, there’s huge excitement building. There is however, some concern about the availability of tickets and Gavin discussed this with Clare GAA County Board Chair, Cllr Joe Cooney.

With the Seanad just producing a special report on solutions to the fall-out of Brexit, Gavin was joined on the line by one of its authors Senator Neale Richmond, who focused on the open skies aspects of their proposals.

Dr Simon Berrow of the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group was Gavin’s next guest. He warned about swimming with dolphins and urged people to treat these intriguing mammals with respect and caution.

Teresa Carmody-O’Shea joined Gavin in studio for the Morning Focus Book Club. Along with Melissa Gamble-Harhen (who’s with a book club in Miltown Malbay), she discussed the novel Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. The July book is The Light Between the Oceans by ML Steadman. Listen back below:

A new ‘memory choir’ is being formed in Clare and auditions are being held at glór on July 15. The director of the choir Dr Dave Flynn – is already oversees the Irish Memory Orchestra – joined Gavin in studio. Listen back below:

For those with some time on their hands who’d like to give back to their community, Gavin was joined in studio by Sharon Meaney of the Clare Volunteer Centre. Sharon highlighted the opportunities available currently. Listen back below:

The show then heard from Susan Giles whose show ‘Interiors’ is at the Burren College of Art in Ballyvaughan until July 28. Susan’s work focuses on the gestures we make in everyday communications. Listen back below:
