Morning Focus – Wednesday 02/08/2017

Wednesday was a busy day on Morning Focus with a number of national news stories involving Clare providing the main talking points.

The show opened with Gavin’s review of what was in the morning papers, followed by a long awaited interview with an Irish Water representative. It was Maurice Hourigan that took to the hot seat to answer some questions regarding the closure of Kilkee beach due to contaminated water.

Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers Association General Secretary Eddie Punch was next up, discussing the Fair Deals Scheme in regards to farmers.

Next was Cork Councillor Diarmaid O’Cadhla, who spoke to Gavin about his moves to get the names of streets, parks etc. named after British dignitaries to be changed to reflect Irish history. With a number of places in Clare with similar names, such as Victoria Park in Kilkee, the topic proved to be a huge talk-point that listeners were eager to get in touch about.

After the news, Gavin spoke to RTÉ broadcaster and proud Clare man, Marty Morrissey about his involvement in the upcoming Novena in Knock. You can listen back to the interview with Marty below:

Gavin then spoke with Bridget Garry and Fiona Hardy about the 75th anniversary of the Kildysart Show which is set to be a great day out for everyone.

Next, Helen Kelly told Gavin about the Rose of Clare Festival which will begin on Saturday and run until next Friday, when the new Rose of Clare will be crowned. You can listen back to the interview with Helen below:
