Volunteers throughout county Clare are being praised after the county’s impressive showing in the National Tidy Town’s competition.
32 Clare communities submitted entries this year – 7 were new-time entrants while all of the other 25 improved on their showings in 2010
Five communities came in for special praise from the judges – Bridgetown won an Endeavour Award, Mountshannon a silver medal while three communities – Ennis, Ballynacally and Kilrush all received gold medals

Clare’s county town has missed out on being named as Ireland’s tidiest large urban area, but it’s mark for 2011 is better than last year, and the town has again been awarded a gold medal
James Maher of Ballynacally Tidy Towns Committee, Murt Collins of Kilrush Tidy Towns Committee, Mary Duggan of Bridgetown Tidy Towns Committee and Dave Mooney of Mountshannon Tidy Towns Committee all thanked those who worked to contribute to their towns’ successes.

Super Tuesday takes place in Ennis today
It aims to attract shoppers into the town with many shops offering special enticements today only
Rita McInerney, CEO of Ennis Chamber of Commerce had a word of support for the initiative, The Chamber contacted their members and encouraged them to get involved
 
Leader Fianna Fail Micheal Martin had a word as he tour constituencies. He will arrive in Ennis this evening for a party meeting in the West County Hotel

Marguerite Philips, solicitor with Cahir and Company, Ennis and volunteer with the Clare Citizens’ Information Service’s Free Legal Advice Clinic joined John to discuss Health and Safety Legislation in the workplace  

"Saint Senan – searching the sources" An exploration of Saint Senan and Scattery Island is a talk taking place this evening in Kilkee Methodist Church in Geraldine Place at 7.30 pm
She will give an illustrated talk then help those present with reading the earliest writings about saint
There is no charge, no special knowledge is needed and all are welcome
Dr Cathy Swift of the Irish Studies Department at Mary Immaculate College, Limerick will give the talk, she had a word with John.

A major fundraiser for Barretstown is taking place in Bunratty this weekend -The Cannonball Run and its 150 Supercars who are raising funds for the operation which offers life-enhancing programmes for seriously ill children, and support for parents and carers. wwww.cannonball.ie
Alan Bannon, Founder of Cannonball Ireland, encouraged people to come along and support.
 
Clare ISPCA Warden Frankie Coote voiced the association’s concerns about an increase in the dumping of pups and kittens throughout the county
Also he discussed the increased incidences of people not paying vet bills and abandoning animals in surgeries.
