Morning Focus – Tuesday, 7th May 2019

Today on Morning Focus, we tackled local and national issues alike covering everything from our pre-election debates and protests in Ennis to World Asthma Day and how separation can affect families. Catch up below:

Firstly on the show, we heard about the Health Service protest at The Height in Ennis last Sunday. Those demonstrating say that they are sick of asking for the same thing over and over to no avail. Clare FM’s James Mulhall spoke to Ennistymon woman Marie McMahon who shared her concerns.

Next, Gavin spoke to Joe Wallace and Edward Fitzgerald from FAMILES, an organisation that supports Families and Men In Life Experiencing Separation. They have support and information evenings every Monday and Thursday at their premises in Limerick. They are also hosting a leaflet launch at The Hope Café, Smithtown, Shannontomorrow at 7.30pm. Today being World Asthma Day, Gavin caught up with Michael McDonagh, an asthma sufferer from Athenry who has chosen an active life. He explains how he manages his asthma to the point where he can run the Dublin City Marathon!

For the second half of the show, we had the first of our pre-election debates. Gavin was joined by five of the Ennis candidates including Seamus Ryan, Labour; Donna McGettigan, Sinn Féin; Cllr Ann Norton, Independent; Mark Nestor, Fianna Fáil and Cllr Johnny Flynn, Fine Gael. They touched on everything from health to housing. Listen back:
