Morning Focus – Tuesday 21/01/20

Today’s edition of Morning Focus began with a discussion on climate change and how Councils are coping with the increasing costs associated with it.

Gavin was joined in studio by Clare County Council CEO Pat Dowling, and by Senior Engineer Cyril Feeney, in the wake of a report from the Local Government Management Agency which found shortcomings in some Councils’ preparations.

Next, we continued our series of candidate head-to-heads in the build-up to the General Election, as Roisín Garvey of the Green Party and Rita McInerney of Fianna Fáil discussed, mainly, issues associated with transport:

After 10:00, Tommy Corbett gave us financial advice for first-time buyers in particular. He’ll talk about other buyer types, and more to do with mortgages, when he’s back with us in a fortnight.

Another General candidate joined us next, as Trudy Leyden came into studio to outline why she is standing. The Ennis woman told us how parental alienation is among her priorities, as you can hear below:

Next, members of the Cloughleigh Drama group told us about their upcoming production of Tommy Marren’s ‘Nobody’s Talking To Me.’ They’re staging it in the local community centre this coming Friday and Saturday, as well as the following Friday and Saturday, with proceeds going towards the local Benevolent Fund and Sláinte an Chláir. The show starts at 8pm each night, and we were told that tickets are selling fast.
