Morning Focus – Tuesday 20/08/19

Tuesday’s Morning Focus heard that the Pieta House counselling service for those affected by suicide and self-harm is set to expand its outreach services in Ennis.

From September, the service will be available in Ennis two days a week, for those who are unable to travel to Limerick for their free counselling sessions, or who want to access therapy closer to home.

Gavin spoke to Tom McEvoy of Pieta House and to Edel Browne of the Apple Blossom Thrift Shop in Ennistymon. Edel is organising a car-wash fundraiser in the town on Saturday (Aug 24, O’Keeffe’s Garage 11am-5pm) to support the work of Pieta House.

Then, Gavin heard from Imelda Cahalan of the Miltown Malbay Further Education and Training Centre, who told him about Heritage Week events in the town.

Then, Gavin was joined in studio by Kevin McCormack from Newmarket-on-Fergus. He had an update on an event taking place in Ennis on Saturday (at Shanahan’s Paints, Tobairteascáin) when local man Oliver Moylan will be presented with medals for his military service.

The show was rounded off with a visit from Clare County Dog Warden Frankie Coote for his weekly Animal Welfare Update.
