Morning Focus – Tuesday 15/08/17

Tuesday’s show continued to highlight all the fun of the Fleadh, with some in-depth analysis of the latest news and lively discussion on the issue of anti-Irish stereotypes.

The programme opened with a discussion of the government’s new initiative to use vacant homes to boost the supply of social housing. Gavin was joined by architect Mel Reynolds and by former member of Clare County Council, Brian Meaney.

As the search steps up for missing Trevor Deely, Gavin was joined on the line for an update by journalist Trevor Quinn.

Caoimhín Ó Sé was next in studio for a look ahead to Tuesday’s Lunchtime Sessions at Clare FM, as well as other highlights from the Fleadh.

After outrage at an article in a UK online magazine which described Ireland as “a land of puppy farms” and “dingy bars”, Gavin got some reactions locally. He spoke first with historian Dr Pádraig Óg Ó Ruairc about the origin of anti-Irish stereotypes and then with Maurice Walsh, General Manager of Durty Nelly’s and the head of the Clare Tourism Forum.

As they celebrate their fortieth birthday, Shannon Camera Club are holding a special exhibition at Clare Museum and Gavin went along to see some of their work. Listen back to a special package below:
