On Tuesday’s Morning Focus the debate over sea defenses at the Trump Doonbeg resort heated up.

This comes after Doughmore Coastal Protection Group was accused of ‘out Trumping Trump’ after the group appeared on BBC’s Radio Four World at One and World Service claiming that it’s ‘pure obvious’ that ‘if it doesn’t go ahead we are all marooned – we’re going to be washed away.’ We heard from Liam Ryan from that group and from Tony Lowes from their opposition, Friends of the Irish Environment.

Then, recently UL Hospitals Group released its long term plan for facilities in Clare, Limerick and Tipperary. While the plan has already faced much criticism, Colette Cowan, CEO of UL Hospitals Group defended the plan on the show today.

At the end of our first hour we heard from Clare Garda Chief Superintendent John Kerin following the July meeting of Clare’s Joint Policing Committee. There were calls for more Gardaí to be sent to Clare but overall is still considered one of the safest counties in the country.

Moving into the show’s second hour the topic was Sky taking a number of pubs and venues to court over unauthorized showing of games and matches. Darragh McAllister VFI (Vintners Federation of Ireland) Clare Chairperson said many smaller establishments are under enough financial pressure without having to pay over €600 to screen matches.

Then, the Centre for Economic and Social Research on Dementia at NUI Galway is leading the first ever study in Ireland looking at what’s available to people with Dementia and their families following a recent diagnosis.
