This jam-packed edition of Morning Focus opened with a debate on an issue that’s raised its head in recent days – that of blasphemy.
It follows a complaint to Gardai in Ennis over comments made in Ireland by comedian Stephen Fry. Gavin was joined on the line by Cathal McMahon Journalist with the Irish Independent and Peter O’Hara of Midwest Humanists. Listen back below:

Cillian Murphy, an independent tourism consultant and member of Kilkee Chamber of Commerce was Gavin’s next guest. He was delighted with news that diving boards in Kilkee are to return for the summer season.

With some concerning findings this week in a survey for health watchdog HIQA about standards of care in our hospitals, nursing homes and homecare settings, Gavin was joined on the line by Justin Moran of Age Action Ireland.

The Money Doctor John Lowe was Gavin’s next guest for his fortnightly financial advice column.

Gavin’s next guests Luke Aston and Ben Bonds caught the biggest shark ever in Irish waters and they did it off the Clare coast. They told Morning Focus exactly how they did it. Listen back below:

Gavin next heard the moving story of Padraig Schaler who sustained a serious brain injury when he was struck by a truck while out cycling. His father Reinhard Schaler is the Founder, CEO of the An Saol Foundation and he told Gavin about its work to support those with similar life-limiting injuries. Listen back below:

The talk then turned to the issue of food fads. Gavin was joined on the line by Oonagh Monahan
Principal Consultant, Alpha Omega Consultants in Leitrim, who’s concerned that the ‘craze’ for cutting carbs could be impacting on the nutrition of children. Clare FM’s Ben Sweeney also produced a special report from Carmel’s Health Store in Ennis on trends seen locally in health food and healthy eating.
