Morning Focus – Tuesday 06/02/18

Tuesday’s Morning Focus heard concerns about a drop off in the number of farm safety inspections, as the rate of farm fatalities remains worryingly high.

Gavin was joined on the line by Clare County Chair of ICMSA, Martin McMahon.

The show opened with a chat with Clare’s Independent TD, Dr Michael Harty. He spoke to Gavin about efforts recently of the Rural Alliance to establish a new political party.

The concept of a possible new ‘graduate tax’ to fund third-level education was then discussed with Síona Cahill, Deputy President of the Union of Students of Ireland (USI).

The show heard that up to 50,000 people are waiting for eye procedures, man of them up to 18 months. Gavin spoke with Lynda McGivney-Nolan of the Association of Optometrists of Ireland.

Then, Morning Focus producer, Fiona McGarry, spoke to Aoife McElwain, author of the book: ‘Slow at Work: How to Work Less, Achieve More and Regain Your Balance in an Always-On World’. Aoife believes her experience of burnout at work will help others to reorganise their lives and enjoy a better quality of life. Listen back below:

The show rounded off with a chat with Lily McGarry of the Association of Irish Choirs. She told Gavin about auditions for the Irish Youth Choir, taking place on February 17 in Limerick and on February 18 in Galway.
