Roads melting in Miltown Malbay

Today’s show began with the dry weather causing even more consternation.

The dry weather is actually dangerous for driving as car temperatures can reach 40 degrees and tar bubbles up on many roads across the country. In one case an unattended mirror burnt a hole in a car door. Conor Faughan of the AA Roadwatch pointed out some of the less obvious dangers and gave us advice about driving safer in this dry spell.

Then, while Ennis is the tidiest town in Ireland Clare’s coasts could use some work. Conor Horgan talked to us about how IBAL (Irish Businesses Against Litter) is shifting focus to areas like Lahinch, Doolin Pier and the banks of the Shannon.

Rounding out the hour we got some water conservation tips from Karen Foley, Clare County Council Environmental Awareness Officer. The advice comes as the dry spell continues and Irish Water pushes conservation in an effort to keep water shortages in check.

The show’s second hour began with Paul Madden and Eugene Drennan, committee members of Club Clare discussing the meet and greet with the Clare hurlers organised by the club. The meet and greet will take place on Saturday, July 7th at Lees Road, Ennis from 3pm to 6pm. All money raised will go to the player training fund.

Then, we heard from the streets of Ennis. This time the topic was water conservation.

Then, finally some good news about the weather! One way to enjoy the sun would be to go on a walk. The Great East Clare Hill Challenge, a 30km hill walk will set out at 8am on Saturday (July 7th) morning from the Two-Mile Gate, Killaloe, to the Twelve O’Clock Hills.

Last but not least the show ended with our animal welfare update from Clare County Dog Warden, Frankie Coote.
