Morning Focus Thursday September 22

Sinead Corbett, a nurse from Newmarket on Fergus came second in the Under 28 Conventional Category at the National Ploughing Championships in Kildare on Tuesday
Sinead doesn’t compete in the female "farmerettes" class, as she’s the only woman in Ireland taking part in her particular category of ploughing
She’s the only woman in Clare, and one of very few nationally to plough, but loves the "thrill" and satisfaction of it, particularly as her father and grandfather were ploughing champions before her. Sinead spoke to John Cooke on Thursday’s Morning Focus.

A North Clare representative has expressed his confidence that Lisdoonvarna is capable of hosting the start and finish of the Etape Hibernia in future
Councillor Bill Slattery wants the start of the race moved out of Ennis to compensate business people in North Clare, who he says lost out on up to 60% of their revenue on the day of the closed-road event
He’s proposing that the start alternate between Lisdoonvarna and Ennis, or that it’s date be moved to a quieter part of the tourist season
Clare County Council say there’s little room to move the date due to a busy international calendar, but Councillor Slattery feels that’s not a barrier to his suggestion

Michael Vaughan, Chairman Shannon Branch Irish Hotels’ Federation and a Lahinch Hotelier
agreed with Bill Slattery. He said the event does inconvenience many businesses and locals in North Clare because of the road closures with two thirds of the race going through North Clare
Also he thinks that if different areas of the county took turns in hosting the start and finish than they could all benefit equally

The retired Bishop of Derry Dr Edward Daly has said the Catholic Church should urgently revisit the issue of celibacy. Dr Daly says he would like to see members of the clergy given the right to marry. He made the comments in his book "A Troubled See, Memoirs of a Derry Bishop" out this month. He recounts his heartache, when as a bishop; he saw priests resign from their ministry because they had fallen in love and wanted to marry. He is one of the most senior figures in the Irish Catholic Church to say celibacy is damaging the church.

All the butter used is made from milk produced in Clare and has been churned especially so no imported oils are used, even in the cooking of the food
