Morning Focus Thursday April 12

On yesterday’s programme concerned residents in the Stonehall area near Newmarket on Fergus called on Clare County Councillors to oppose plans to rezone land there, even though plans for the site could lead to a significant jobs boost.

On Thursday’s Morning Focus John Cooke spoke with local Shannon area councillors Pat McMahon in Newmarket on Fergus, Patricia McCarthy in Shannon, PJ Ryan in Sixmilebridge and Gerry Flynn in Shannon to get their views on the issue. 

The General Secretary of the ASTI says his members may be balloted on withdrawing from the Croke Park deal – if teachers allowances are cut
Pat King told around 450 secondary school teachers at the unions annual conference in Cork yesterday that there is a great misunderstanding of teachers pay among the public – fuelled maliciously by Government backbenchers
Delegates have been debating the Croke Park deal – with many voicing their opposition to the agreement – particularly when it comes to extra curricular hours for plays, sport and clubs
Pat King told them that they were right to sign up to the deal in the first place – but he warned the Government against making changes to teachers allowances
Diarmuid de Poar – Deputy General Secretary of the ASTI – had a word with John from the ASTI conferernce in Cork.   
 
Kilbaha campaigner Jim Connolly has launched a new polticial party – the Irish Citizens’ Party
The Rural Resettlement Ireland founder joined John in studio and says his motivation for the Irish Citizens Party is live of his country and his fellow humans
He feeels 21st Century Ireland needs a new political leadership and vision and that we are currently bereft of an inclusive humanitarian vision for Ireland.
