Morning Focus opened with a discussion of pub closures in Clare. New figures reveal the pressures on the sector in terms of heavy excise taxes.
Pat Flynn was joined by Darragh McAllister, Clare Chairperson of the VFI.
The show then turned to the World Meeting of Families and a special outdoor Mass in Sixmilebridge this evening (Thurs, Aug 23) to mark the event. Pat was joined by PP, Fr Harry Bohan who shared his views on the controversies surrounding the Vatican’s response to clerical and institutional abuse.
After that, Cormac McCarthy joined Pat to chat about a special ‘listening event’ at DeValera library in Ennis today (Thurs, Aug 23) organised for Heritage Week by Cuimhneamh an Chláir.
Then, the talk turned to creativity and how to recover it in your life. Pat was joined by Amanda Grace a visual journal artist and facilitator of creative recovery. Listen back below:
James Clancy was Pat’s next guest, ahead of the Doolin Motorcycle Fest this weekend. The event raises funds for ovarian cancer research in memory of James’s late wife Marie.
Footballer Michael O’Shea was then remembered fondly on the show. The 37-year-old Kilkee clubman passed away this week after a battle with cancer. Michael also played for Clare for over 15 years and captained the county to McGrath Cup success in 2008. Pat was joined by Clare FM’s Derrick Lynch and Clare County GAA Chair, Cllr Joe Cooney.
