Morning Focus – Thursday, 18th January

Today’s show was packed full with local and national news. We heard about the most recent mother & baby homes report, overcrowding at UHL, Clare pupils dancing for road safety and the latest arts updates with Siobhán Mulcahy. Catch up below:

First on the show, Gavin was talking about the fifth interim report on the mother & baby homes with Rita McCarthy, Kilrush-based historian. The report reveals that there is very little information about the deaths and burial practices at some of these institutions. Listen back:

Then on the show, Morning Focus producer Fiona McGarry was talking to an Ennis mother whose daughter was rushed to UHL last Sunday night. She talked about the conditions she was faced with and what she wishes the government would do about it.

After a segment earlier this week on anti-social behaviour in Ennis, Clare FM’s Grace Kieran took to the streets to find out how the general public feel about the issue. Catch up below:

Next on the show, we heard from Brian Farrell, the road safety authority spokesperson, about how they’re getting Clare pupils to dance for road safety. The competition is open to primary schools and the winners get 30 ipads for their school and a voucher for their teacher.

Gavin talked to Kieran Shannon from the Irish Examiner next about the ongoing FAI scandal. Together they aimed to answer the question: What will it take to restore faith in Irish Football?

Charlie Glynn joined Gavin in studio then to talk about the RNLI’s mayday fundraising campaign. Glynn talked about the work they do in Kilrush and how you can get involved in fundraising.

Lastly on the show, Clare County Arts Officer Siobhán Mulcahy joined Gavin in studio to give us the latest arts updates for Clare.
