Morning Focus – Thursday 15/03/18

On Thursday’s edition of Morning Focus, courtesy of United Airlines, Gavin gave another listener a chance to win two tickets to New York! The competition will come to a close on Friday (March 16) so make sure you tune in and try your hand at a trip to the Big Apple before then!

At 9 am, Gavin chatted with Councillor Mary Howard about the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day events and her proposal to dye the river Fergus green in 2019. She also spoke about the responsibility of being aware of the people around you and to stay away from ‘silly string’ during and after the parade.

Following that, Mags Naughton, a children’s specialist and liaison nurse at the Jack & Jill Foundation in Clare, joined Gavin in studio to talk about Jordan Perez’s story.

Then, Gavin checked in with Rupert Bell, racing correspondent, about the on-going events at the Cheltenham Races.

At 10 am, Dr Toby Sachsenmaier, a renowned psychologist, discussed the issue of child safety online and gave parenting advice to Morning Focus listeners amid all the concern surrounding children’s usage of the internet.

Next, Mary Skehan of Sláinte an Chláír, joined Gavin on air to talk about the new cancer booklet they have launched.

After that, John O’Connell, the organiser of the Patrcia Corbett Memorial Run/Walk, talked to Gavin about the event. The memorial run is taking place in Labasheeda on Monday the 19th of March at 12:30 pm. Registration begins at 12 pm.

At 11 am, Gavin spoke to Lorna Moloney, forensic genealogist, & founder of Merriman Research, and Hannah O’Sullivan of Merriman Research about tracing the DNA of Brian Ború. The organisation are hosting a talk on Brian Ború in Limerick City Library on Tuesday the 20th of March from 1 pm to 3 pm.

Then, Marian Egan, Kilfenora timeline volunteer and committee member, spoke to Gavin about the time capsule Kilfenora locals have created together. The capsule will be buried on the 16th of March, Friday. There will be a presentation from local students at 12:30 pm, and the capsule will be buried at 1 pm.

Next, Gavin chatted with Tom Hanley, PRO at Clare Drama Festival, about the festival that has been running in Scariff for 71 years.

To round off the show, Gavin spoke to Frank Minogue, general manager at the Armada Hotel in Spanish Point about the community beach clean up that is taking place at 2 pm on Bank Holiday Monday.

He also spoke to Anne Broggy-Kretz, about her expected participation in a welly-throwing competition in the Swiss Alps during St. Patrick’s weekend.
