Thursday’s Morning Focus featured an interview with staff of the UL Hospitals Group, on foot of a landmark patient satisfaction survey conducted last May.
Gavin was joined in studio by Patricia O’Gorman, Operational Director of Nursing at Ennis General Hospital and Miriam McCarthy, Patient Advocacy and Liaison Service Manager for the UL Hospitals Group.
They discussed results on the patient survey and said the hospitals group was committed to improving is performance, particularly on the experience of the Emergency Department at University Hospital Limerick.

The show also looked at a long-running water outage in Finavarra in North Clare, where some local people have been without a supply for more than a week. Gavin was joined by resident Gerry Naughton.

The issue of farm families in Clare and the struggles they face was next up for discussion when Gavin was joined by Donie Shine of the Farm Rights Group. He’s one of the organisers of a meeting next Friday (Dec 15) at 8.30pm at the Auburn Lodge Hotel.
This week, we learned that seabird, the Kittiwake, is endangered globally. Here in Clare the population is doing a little better, as Dr Stephen Newton, Senior Seabird Conservation Officer with Bird Watch Ireland, told the show. Listen back below:

After that, Marian Rodgers told Gavin how the ladies of the Scariff/Ogonnelloe senior camogie team are set to help the older community this Christmas. They’re encouraging people who need help with shopping and other pre-Christmas tasks to contact 087 2103932.
Next, Gavin had a chat with Pat O’Doherty of Pemba Support in Ennistymon. She updated him on the work the organisation has done over the last year and looked ahead of the AGM in Ennis on January 19 (7pm Treacy’s West County Hotel, Ennis) when the organisation will be looking for new volunteers.
