MORNING FOCUS THURSDAY 13TH NOVEMBER

Amongst the main issues raised in the Garda Inspectorate report was how circumstances of domestic violence were handled by the Garda. There were complaints of non reporting of serious crimes in this area and other issues which led to crimes going unpunished. Denise Dunne of Clare Haven spoke to John about the issues highlighted in the report.

An agreement has been reached this morning between beef farmers and industry groups after nine hours of overnight talks on prices paid for cattle. In a statement from the Department of Agriculture shortly after 2am, Minister Simon Coveney said the outcome of the discussions at Celbridge, Co Kildare was "very positive" and demonstrated a "strong commitment to the beef industry by all of the parties in the forum. Eddie Pumch Cratleo farmer and general secretary of ICSA who took part in the talks spoke to John  about the outcome.

Clare County Council has commenced work on developing a walkway along the shore of Lough Derg from Killaloe to Ballycuggeran and Two Mile Gate.

 The existing 0.5km walkway runs from the centre of Killaloe to Brian Ború's Fort (Beal Ború). Work on the 1.8km extension to the walkway is expected to be completed by the end of 2014. The €100,000 project is funded under a €2 million stimulus package recently announced by the Government for the development of tourism in the Lakelands Lough Derg Region. Listners had recently contacted the show to talk about problems with the development.  Hugh McGrath Killaloe Area Engineer was on hand to discuss the project.
