Morning Focus – Thursday 09/02/17

Thursday’s Morning Focus was packed full of current and controversial topics.

The show commenced with a Clare FM competition in association with Collins Jewelers. Listeners are in with a chance of winning an engagement ring for Valentine’s day worth 2,500 euro.

Shortly after 9am, Dr Michael Harty, Independent deputy for Clare, joined Gavin to discuss the concerns surrounding children’s hospital funding. There’s widespread panic in Ireland after the HSE announced that they can’t afford to build the new national children’s hospital.

Following that, Gavin was joined by Justin Moran who is the Head of Advocacy at Age Action Ireland. They talked about the pension change. More than 35,00 pensioners has their pensions cut because of changes introduced to the state pension in 2012 by the previous government.

Next, Gavin welcomed FF Deputy for Clare, Timmy Dooley onto the show. They discussed the axing of NS counselling grants. This scheme helped primary schools provide psychological support to vulnerable students.

At 10am, Gavin hosted the ‘Ask The GP’ segment with Dr. Máire Finn of the Ennis Family medical Centre.

After that, Gavin spoke to Eamon Brennan, CEO of Irish Aviation Authority, about the impact of Brexit on the aviation sector in Clare.

To finish up the second hour of the show, Gavin chatted with a west Clare man about his decade long wait for spinal treatment.

Gavin kicked off the final hour of the show by speaking to comedian, Jason Byrne. They spoke about his show in Glór on the 16th February and all the props to watch out for if you’re in the audience.

Following that, Gavin spoke to Marcin Piotrowski, a Polish national but longtime Clare resident. He appealed to the non-national community to come forward about the armed robbery that occurred at Maxol Petrol Station on the 5th of February if they have any useful information.

Then, CEO of the Irish Tourist Industry Confederation, Eamon O’Mara Walsh, joined Gavin to talk about the Lough Derg Group Marketing award.

To close the show, Gavin welcomed onto the show, Adrian Weckler from Independent.ie to chat about the continual rise of roaming charges in Ireland.
