Morning Focus – Thursday 08/02/18

On today’s show, Gavin met the Clare students who travelled to Leinster House this week to brief an Oireachtas committee about sexting and other concerning aspects of social media.

Gavin was joined by Jody Whelan and Fearghal Burke from Mary Immaculate in Lisdoonvarna. They’re members of Comhairle Dáil na nÓg and made a presentation on social media to the Joint Committee on Children and Youth Affairs this week.

The show opened with a conversation with West Clare psychiatrist John Hillery who shared his views on the prescription rate for anti-depressant medications.

Then, Gavin was joined by Anne Fitzgerald, Deputy Editor of the Limerick Leader. She updated listeners on the aftermath of the shocking school bus crash close to Caherconlish in County Limerick yesterday.

After that, Kevin Doyle, Group Political Editor of Independent News and Media told Gavin about his views on a possible urban-rural divide emerging between Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil.

With a public information meeting taking place tonight (Feb 8) at the Old Ground Hotel for the Clare Pro Life/Love Both Campaign, Gavin spoke to one of the key speakers, Bernadette Goulding, of Marth’s Vineyard.

Cllr Mary Howard (FG) was Gavin’s next guest. She’s welcoming moves to ensure that all maternal deaths on childbirth are investigated.

Singer Seán Keane then joined Gavin in studio to speak about the launch of his single ‘Heroes of the Waters’ by Johnny Brokerick. Joe Queally and Tony Hiney from the RNLI also joined the discussion.

A much-loved history of the West Clare Railway by Eddie Lenihan has just been relaunched and he joined Gavin in studio to talk about the new edition.
