Today on Morning Focus, Dr Toby Sachsenmaier, Clinical Psychologist, joined us in studio for our regular parenting advice slot.

This week Dr Toby spoke about how the teenage brain works, a very difficult question to answer but Dr Toby explained why teenagers behave the way they do, and how it’s not always down to hormones! Dr Toby also explained the most effective ways parents can help their teenagers.

Before that on the show, Gavin spoke to Breda McNamara, Chairperson of Cnoc na Gaoithe Development Committee as the government has announced a €900,000 grant for the provision of a multifunctional performance auditorium at the Cnoc na Gaoithe Cultural Centre in Tulla.

Next on the show, Des Fitzgerald, President of UL, joined us on the line to discuss the University of Limerick’s new strategic plan and the benefits it will accrue for the MidWest.

Next, on Morning Focus Dr Anna Clarke, Advocacy and Research Manager joined us on the line ahead of World Diabetes Week kicking off with its Diabetes Health & Wellbeing Exhibition in the Strand Hotel, Ennis Road, Limerick from 12 noon to 5:00 pm Sunday 10th November. This free exhibition will provide an array of attractions for the public such as free diabetes health checks, blood pressure and HbA1c testing, weight & BMI checks, plus a range of patient education forums throughout the day.

Next on the show, we heard from Brian O’Connell, Journalist, Broadcaster and Author,  whose new book The Personals reveals how classified ads are not just a few commercial lines of text in print or online – they can be a treasure trove of fascinating human stories; stories of love, loss, loneliness, redemption and hope. The Personals is nominated for an An Post Irish Book Award in the Popular Non-Fiction Book of the Year Category whereby the winner is based on a public vote.
