Morning Focus Monday 3rd March

On Mondays Morning Focus; Fianna Fail TD Timmy Dooley and Fine Gael TD Joe Carey joined John in studio to debate weather the almost 17 million euro in funding allocated to Clare is enough to repair the county's storm damaged communities.  16.2 million will be spent on the repair of infrastructure, while just over 600 thousand euro has also been given to the Council to cover it's costs to date.

Up next Elma Walsh, Mother of young anti-suicide campaigner Donal Walsh and Louise Roche McNamara Local election candidate for Fianna Fail spoke to John about a public meeting on youth mental health and supports for young people in difficulty in Shannon in the Oakwood Arms Hotel at 7.30pm.  Louise Roche McNamara organised the meeting while Elma is a guest speaker.

Patrick Gavin. Post Master in Carrigaholt was on the line to chat to John about the flood being experienced in Clare this morning.  6 houses and the Irish College are again cut off this morning in Kilcredaun following what's thought to be the highest tide of the year.  The tide reached its peak at 7 this morning.  

The post office in Carrigaholt is closed this morning because Pat can't make it out.  He thinks he may be able to get out later in a tractor.  The temporary wall at the Irish College that the council had put up has been washed away.  

Garda Brendan Keane from Ennis Garda station appealed for the public's assistance with information on crimes committed in the county over the past seven days.  Contact Ennis Garda Station on 065 68 48 100.

Cathal McMahon Crime Correspondent with the Irish Mirror and Meelick man spoke to John about the shooting of John Gilligan over the weekend.  The 61 year old was shot several times and rushed to Connolly hospital in Blanchardstown, where he underwent emergency surgery.  Cathal gave the latest in the investigation into the shooting. 

Breandáin MacFhionnghaile joined John in studio to talk about  Seachtain na Gaeilge which is one of the biggest celebrations of our native language and culture that takes place each year in Ireland and in many other countries.  This year's festival is running from 1 – 17 March 2014.  Breandáin told John what the people of Clare can look forward to over the next week.  Irish is for everyone, Seachtain na Gaeilge is for everyone – Croí na Teanga, It's You!

Finally John Murphy, wildlife expert and Chairperson of the Clare branch of Birdwatch Ireland joined John in studio to answer listeners' bird and wildlife queries.
