How could today’s Morning Focus open with anything but coverage of Clare’s dramatic comeback against Galway last Saturday?

The answer? It couldn’t! Monday’s Morning Focus began with commentary on the hurling match and with Clare Manager Donal Moloney giving his two cents.

Then, Joe Healy, president of the IFA (Irish Farmers’ Association) was unimpressed by the lack of support from the government for farmers affected by the drought. Then we had details on the Galway Races. The races are set to run from today, (July 30th) all the way through the week to Sunday (August 5th). Last year’s races saw 140,000 attendees hit Galway and this year is expected to be similar. Gavin was joined by Derek O’Connor, a jockey and Irish Gold Cup winner from Tubber, to talk all about it.

Hour two opened with Garda Focus with Clare Crime Prevention Officer Tríona O’Rourke.

Following that Helen Kelly gave us details on the Rose of Clare Festival. The festival will run from August 4th to 10th in Cooraclare. Events this year include a field day, a parade, a kiddies disco, a quiz night, a song contest, a toy tractor run and the big one, a casino night on Sunday (August 5th). The roses themselves will be interviewed over two night also.

The show ended with this week’s Monday Sports Panel discussing the events of Saturday’s hurling game between Clare and Galway that even after extra time ended in a draw. This week’s panel included Peter O’Connell, editor of the Clare Champion and of course, Clare FM’s Derrick Lynch.
