Morning Focus – Monday 19/08/19

Junior musicians come to studio to play for Morning Focus ahead of the 2019 Dan Furey Weekend in Labasheeda.

A jam-packed Monday edition of Morning Focus had some great live music in studio from Labasheeda musicians, young and old, ahead of the Dan Furey Weekend.

The event gets underway on Thursday (August 22) and marks its 25 year. Listen back below:

Monday’s show opened with a discussion with Clare’s Fianna Fáil TD, Dep Timmy Dooley of a number of issues including the axing of the Retrofit Grant Scheme and the likely impact of a no-deal Brexit.

The show then heard with an issue arising over the weekend to do with Shannondoc cover in Miltown Malbay and local concerns that the service could be coming to an end next month. Shannondoc have told Clare FM that despite the pressure in staff the out-of-hours GP service, that it will continue.

Gavin heard from Deirdre Culligan of the Reinstate Shannondoc Group.

The show was then joined by Sgt John Maloney from Kilrush Station who made an appeal to rural road users to be safe, after an increase in fatal incidents this year.

Then Gavin heard from Ken Kilbride about a new service in the Midwest for those with ADHD. A meeting takes place in Limerick at The Strand Hotel on Thursday (Aug 22) night from 6.30-9pm. All are welcome. More details from ADHD Ireland are available from 01 8748349.

After Garda Focus, Gavin spoke with John Jennings of Parteen Men’s Shed. He’s coordinator of Clare Men’s Sheds and they’re embarking on works to renovate the garden at St Joseph’s Hospital, Ennis, starting tomorrow.

Micheál Marrinan was also among Monday’s guests as he told Gavin about a reunion for the clan, taking place in Ennistymon on August 31 at Teach Cheoil.
