Morning Focus – Monday 12/03/18

On Monday’s edition of Morning Focus, courtesy of United Airlines, Gavin was giving away two return tickets to New York to one lucky listener! The competition will come to a close on Friday (16th March) so make sure you tune in and try your hand at a trip to the big apple before then!

At 9 am, Clare-based asylum seeker, Donah Vuma, joined Gavin to explain why she also wants the direct provision centre system to be scrapped.

Following that, Gavin spoke to Fianna Fáil member of the Clare County Council and Ennis & district soroptimist, Clare Colleran Molloy about the soroptimist deputation making a case to the council to end the direct provision centres.

Then, Sinead McCann of carsireland.ie spoke to Gavin about Japanese Car brand, Toyota’s decision to end the production and sale of diesel based cars in Europe this year. Toyota is aiming to focus more on petrol-electric hybrid cars.

At 10 am, Gavin chatted with Dr Noëlle O’Connor, programme director, and senior lecturer in tourism management at the Limerick Institute of Technology, about the ground-breaking tour guide training that is set to start in Ennis.

After that, Gavin chatted with Maree Murphy,teacher at St. Anne’s Community College and students of the school; Molly Fennessy and Kyle Collins. The students are set to present the school’s version of the musical ‘We Will Rock You’ during St. Patrick’s weekend.

Next, Dr Philip Smyth, head of the Shannon College of Hotel Management, discusses the opportunities that brexit will present international students with.

At 11 am, Gavin hosted the ‘Monday Sports Panel’. This week he was joined by Jim Madden, FAI Munster Delegate, Peter O’Connell, journalist at the Clare Champion, and Derrick Lynch, head of sport at Clare FM.

To round off the show, Gavin chatted to St Joseph’s Secondary School in Tulla students; Cara Close, Roisin Keogh, Molly B. Nolan, Mary-Anne Cavalleri and their teacher Miss O’Sullivan. The girls are responsible for organising and hosting a fundraising fashion show at the inn in Dromoland. The show will be going ahead on Thursday the 15th of March and the even will begin at 8 pm. However, doors will be open at 7 pm, and there will be entertainment throughout the night.
