Morning Focus – Monday 09/04/18

On Monday’s Morning Focus, there was a lot of talk surrounding decisions for Blake’s Corner in Ennistymon. The Clare County Council are due to make their final decision on planning to pedestrianise the bridge, build a new roundabout, and demolish three buildings. Ennistymon Fianna Fáil Councillor, Richard Nagle, spoke to Gavin live on air about the meeting.

Following the discussion of Blake’s Corner, Gavin was joined live in studio by Mary Kennedy, Resource Officer for Suicide Prevention in Clare and North Tipperary. In response to the ongoing problem of suicide, a targeted suicide prevention strategy was enacted in the Midwest just over a year ago. Mary and Gavin spoke about the success of the strategy thus far.

Then, Gavin chatted with the principal of Scoil Chríost Rí, Gearoid Roughan, about the opening of their new 6 million euro, state of the art school.

Next, Gavin hosted the ‘Garda Focus’ segment with Garda Niamh Browne.

After that, Christine O’Riordan, the author of ‘Feathers in My Brain’, a novel written to help children understand dementia, by the Crystal Project, joined Gavin on air to talk about the importance of the novel that aims to help young children cope better with family members suffering dementia.

Roisín Garvey, PRO of the Ennistymon Town Team, came to studio to chat to Gavin about the unveiling of Ennistymon’s new ‘Town Team’. With many new developments afoot for the area, a team was made up of 12 people who are happy to work voluntarily in order to improve the town.

Earlier in the show, Morning Focus listeners heard about the Midwest suicide prevention strategy, well, following the helpful movement, Brid O’Meara, Director of Service, Aware, spoke to Gavin about the launch of courses for those coping with depression in Kilrush.
