Today on Morning Focus we looked at today’s news stories and events as well as reflecting on the news of the this week with our Friday Panel. Catch up with the show below:

Firstly on the show, Dr Des Shearer was on air following an open letter he wrote online demanding for increased funding, resources, staffing and infrastructure in the department of health. He told us about his experiences working as a junior doctor at UHL. Listen back below:

Next on the show, we heard from Sgt Tríona O’Rourke about ‘Advance Fee Fraud’, a scam by a fake online loan provider. ‘Applicants’ are asked to hand over the first installment of their loan repayment before drawing down their lump sum. Once the fee is handed over the loan is never issued. It is estimated that up to €20,000 has been stolen in the last six months.

Before the news, we heard about events coming up this bank holiday weekend. Frank McNamara told us about Dancing in the Crossroads – In the Shadow of Blake’s Corner, an event to celebrate the Big Hello Community initiative on Monday 12-6 pm in Ennistymon Church car park. Frank Fitzgerald told us about the Clare collection for Special Olympics, which is taking place today. Plus, Martin Waldron was live in studio to tell us about the Festival of Finn, which kicked off last night but you can still get involved in the World Stone Throwing Championship, Lark at the Lake, Festival Dance and much more throughout the bank holiday weekend in Corofin.

Next on the show, we had our Friday Panel, which this week was made up of Sharon Cahir, Cahir & Co Solicitors; Martin McMahon, Clare Chairperson ICMSA and John Quinlivan, Former Shannon Development Regional Manager, Friends of Shannon Airport. We discussed the week’s news including the Quirke murder trial, a bailout for beef farmers, the National Broadband Plan and Riverdance. Listen back:

Lastly on Morning Focus, we heard about the pre-qualifiers at Ennis Golf Club for the JP McManus Pro-Am 2020. Pat Rutherford from Special Olympics Ennis told us more about next year’s event and how it’s helping to raise money for Clare Crusaders.
