Musicians on Morning Focus ahead of the Crotty Galvin Weekend.

Thursday’s Morning Focus included some great live music, ahead of the 17th annual Crotty Galvin Festival taking place in Moyasta from August 23 to 25.

Gavin was joined by Josephine Crotty and Mary B McMahon. There was music too from Mairead Considine (concertina), Kieran Killeen (flute) and Orla Coughlan (fiddle). Listen back below:

The show opened with a discussion of the rate of rural pub closures in Clare, a topic Gavin chatted about with Darragh McAllister, Clare Chair of the VFI and Tony Cogan of Cogan’s in Miltown Malbay.

Then, the talk turned to the reaction in Clare to proposals to address the beef crisis. Gavin was joined in studio by Josephy Woulfe, Chair of Beef Plan Clare.

 

After that, Gavin was joined by Oliver Garry from Kildysart and Independent Tourism Consultant John Ruddle ahead of a public meeting (Thurs, Aug 22 7.30pm at Kildysart Community Centre) on the future of Cahircon House.

The second hour of the show opened with some advice for those who are making the change from school to college. Gavin heard from Dr Colman Noctor, Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist of St Patrick’s Mental Health Services. Listen back below:

After that, Clare’s Senator Martin Conway discussed an unannounced visit by Health Minister Simon Harris to UHL, as well as changes just unveiled for the structure of An Garda Síochána.

The show rounded off with a chat with Mags Daly, a member of the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group and the Shannon Dolphin Project. She told Gavin about opportunities for land-based whale watching at Loop Head and Black Head in Clare on Saturday (Aug 24) which is All-Island Whale Watch Day.
