The Friday edition of Morning Focus invited Patricia McCarthy, Ger O’Halloran and Orla Vaughan to studio to discuss all of the week’s big news.

The Friday Panel discussed the exciting news that Lahinch Golf Club is to host The Irish Open; the tone of political debate and the forthcoming wedding of Prince Harry and Megan Markle.

The show opened with discussion of the Irish Open, set to come to Lahinch in 14 months time. Gavin spoke to legendary golfer Paul McGinley and to Paddy Keane, General Manager of Lahinch Golf Club.

Then, the talk turned to the rising cost of diesel and petrol and the impact on business, particularly the haulage industry, and on agriculture.

The last of the shortlisted nominees for the title of Clare’s Greatest Ever Person was unveiled as legendary hurling manager, Ger Loughnane.

Gavin was joined by Syl O’Connor of Clare FM.

Clare County Arts Officer, Siobhán Mulcahy then joined Gavin for a round-up of arts events and Mary Skehan of Sláinte an Chláir previewed a special fundraising event, scheduled to tie in with the royal wedding on Saturday. That takes place at Treacy’s West County Hotel in Ennis.

The show rounded off with a special report on Morning Focus producer Fiona McGarry getting on board the Ennis CBS Primary walking bus.
