Morning Focus kicked off today Martin McMahon, Clare Chairperson ICMSA told us about how dark nights prompt fears over rural crime.

Farmers raised the problem of aggressive trespassers with dogs travelling over farmers’ land with the Garda Commissioner. Their machinery and tools are also being stolen.

Prof Martin Cormican, National Clinical Lead, Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare Associated Infections discussed UHL beginning contact with patients at risk of superbug. Most people who carry CPE picked it up in a hospital and it never causes them illness. A helpline number has been set up to deal with concerns. For more information on CPE click here

We heard from Green leader Dep Eamon Ryan who is in Clare to launch local election candidates. Eamon will be in the Rowan Tree Hostel this Thursday (November 15) with the aim of discovering how the Green Party can best support local interests. It will also launch Clare’s Green 2019 Local Election candidates for North and East Clare.

In the second hour of the show we had our weekly segment ‘Ask the GP’ with Dr Máire Finn, Ennis Family Medical Centre.

Then, we heard from Niall O’Callaghan, Managing Director of Shannon Heritage on future plans at Shannon Heritage. On the weekends leading up to the Christmas holidays King John’s Castle will hold a ‘Magical Christmas’ with Santa Claus between 10am and 7pm.

Jean McCabe, Willow Ennis & Galway spoke to us about her Ennis boutique Willow winning the National Store of the Year at the 2018 Retail Excellence Awards. Bambino’s Children’s Store Ennis and Shannon Airport Duty Free were also honoured with Top 5 Store Awards while Shannon Duty Free was crowned the National Visitor Store of the Year.

In the last hour of the show we had Ultan Conlon, Claire Sands and Kenny Kenny, Kenny’s Bar, Lahinch with live music in studio. The White Horse Sessions will bring some of the top singers and musicians to Lahinch. Claire Sands will play in Kenny’s tomorrow night (November 15) and Ultan will play there on November 29.

After that, Clare FM music guru Brian Flynn was back to present ‘The Greatest Song You’ve Probably Never Heard.’ This week’s specially chosen track was ‘Everybody Knows’ by Don Henley.

Eugene Moylan joined us to discuss the upcoming COPD awareness event in Ennis which takes place tomorrow (November 15) in Cois na hAbhna, Gort Road, Ennis, from 11am to 2.30pm. People who think they might have COPD, especially those over 35 and who have persistent breathlessness, coughing and chest infections, or a family history of COPD, are encouraged to avail of free health information and advice, and a COPD spirometry breathing test.
