Today’s Morning Focus began with a pastoral message from Bishop of Killaloe, Fintan Monahan on homelessness. 

Bishop Fintan Monahan is calling for state-owned land to be used for local authority-built housing instead of being given to private developers.

After this, Catherine Cox, Family Carers Ireland discussed the NGOs call for an extra €100 million to be provided for home care in the forthcoming Budget. There is a need for investment in home care services before the homecare scheme is introduced in 2021.

Miriam Duffy of Rape Crisis Midwest joined Gavin on air to talk about Trump’s mockery of Christine Blasey Ford over her assault testimony against his Supreme Court nominee.

In the second hour of the show we heard from Caroline Dunlea who won the ‘Best Use of Digital Award’ at the Network Ireland Businesswoman of the Year Awards in Galway recently. Caroline’s company Core Optimisation based in Shannon has since announced 14 new jobs.

Fitness Instructor Peter Barron told us his story about making the cover of Men’s Health magazine in Dubai despite being told at the age of 20 that he would never model after undergoing an operation.

Diarmuid Keane, Secretary of St Senan’s GAA Club spoke about honouring the late Detective Garda Adrian Donohue. A Perpetual Cup till take place this Saturday (October 6) at St Senan’s GAA Field, Kilkee to highlight his contribution to GAA.

In the final hour of Morning Focus Clare FM reporter Ryan Hanton spoke with the people of Ennis to find out what they’re watching on TV this winter as the evenings draw in.

Áine Mae O’Mahony spoke about her vision loss ahead of World Sight Day (October 11). Áine Mae is an advocate for the protection of sight. A Public Engagement Day will be held in Dublin on Saturday (October 6) for people with a variety of vision impairments to come together and share their experiences.

Poet Martin Vernon joined us to talk lunchtime poetry which will launch tomorrow (October 5) at De Valera Library, Ennis. The Clare Poetry Collective will offer a lunchtime poetry event the first Friday of every month.

Author Lucille Ennis informed Gavin about her new book on the sinking of RMS Leinster 100 years ago. 567 people died and 11 of them had Clare connections. Next Sunday (October 7) Clare Roots Society will host a number of remembrance events, followed by Lucille’s book launch at 12:30pm and a wreath-laying at Clare Peace Park at 1:30pm.
