On Monday’s Morning Focus, we rounded up on the weekends sporting actions when Clare where sadly knocked out of Senior Hurling Championships.

It ended with a bang, rather than a whimper, as a much-improved performance from Clare saw them bounce back from heavy defeats to Tipperary and limerick to defeat Cork at Cusack Park. However, those losses were the difference as the side were eliminated on scoring difference, after they didn’t get the favour needed from Limerick in their game against Tipperary. Donal Moloney and Gerry O’Connor spoke to Gavin Grace about the lose.

This month sees the second anniversary of the election of Leo Varadkar as the 14th Taoiseach of Ireland. His youth and the fact that he’s openly gay meant his appointment made global headlines. Since June of 2017, the Taoiseach has had major wins, including the passing of the referendums on the 8th amendment and on divorce; but some critics cite his infatuation with spin and celebrity; as well as debacles like the National Broadband Plan, the Children’s Hospital and the worsening issues in health and housing. Fine Gael  TD for Clare Deputy Joe Carey joined Gavin in the studio.

We have all experienced the frustration of dealing with low broadband speeds and know the potential offered by high-speed internet connections. While 5G technology is on the horizon, concerns have been raised about its potential impact on human health. So much so that Cllr Clare Colleran Molloy for Clare County council is citing a recent warning to the EU from 180 scientists and doctors from 36 countries as grounds to ask Clare County Council to strongly oppose its roll-out. At this afternoon’s meeting of the authority she is calling on the council to oppose the roll-out of 5G; call on ComReg to deny licensing and on government to set up a working group to examine its environmental and health impacts.
