Clare Councillors have rejected calls for the DAA to regain control of Shannon Airport.

Sixmilebridge Fine Gael Councillor John Crowe had tabled a motion calling for the DAA to assume control of Shanon, reverting to the situation that had been in place prior to Shannon’s separation in 2014.

But while Councillors agreed with the need for change during their meeting last night, many local representatives expressed unease with such a suggestion, claiming that the DAA would not have Shannon’s interests at heart.

Instead, the Council has adopted a position in which they will call on Minister Eamon Ryan to consider a new National Aviation Policy requiring 15% of all passenger traffic be directed to Shannon.
