Transport Minister Orders Review Into Shannon Group

Clare’s Fianna Fail TD says the decision to order a review into the sustainability and viability of Shannon Group isn’t just a blank cheque for the company.

Transport Minister Eamon Ryan has requested the review into the semi-state body following a dramatic fall in passenger numbers at Shannon Airport, which is operated by the group, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Earlier this year, management at the airport informed staff of the need for voluntary redundancies and pay cuts as part of substantial cost-cutting measures.

Within the Minister’s proposed review, consideration is expected to be given to restructuring measures and financial supports.

But Clare Fianna Fail TD Cathal Crowe says any supports given to Shannon Group must come with conditions attached.
